Mississippi Cancer Registry
The Mississippi Cancer Registry maintains a confidential database of cancer diagnosis, stage and mortality collected and reported, by law, from physicians, hospitals and other health care facilities across the state.
Information is used to help:
- Anticipate future treatment and recovery needs
- Develop programs to detect cancer at an earlier, more treatable state of disease
- Activate prevention programs to help prevent cancer
- Guide research
The Mississippi Legislature provided funding through the Mississippi State Department of Health to establish the Mississippi Cancer Registry in 1993. The registry is supported by cooperative agreement from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and UMMC. Its contents are solely the responsibility of the authors and do not represent the official views of the CDC, UMMC or MDH.
